I'm not sure if you're in Canada, but it's illegal there to melt/deface/destroy coinage.

I'm totally ignorant on this subject, but would the same be true of 90% US silver coin? Since they are legal tender, would it be illegal to melt them down? How about SAE and GAE coins? They have a face value too.

No restriction in the States except for pennies and nickels.

Why do you want to melt them down???
Theyre worth more in coin form... Unless you know exactly what you are doing, you will have a big glob of 90% silver....or whatever the purity of the coins are.... Then you need it assayed....why bother.....??? |
